Empowering Employers Through Untapped Potential training

At Larita Academy’s recent Careers Open Day, LK Group employers took part in a tailored training session designed to help them welcome and support youth at risk in their workplaces.
The “Untapped Potential” session was led by Dr Eamonn McCarthy (DFP, MAPS, FCFP), Chief Psychologist and co-founder of Mind Your Monkey. Eamonn has spent his career working at the extreme ends of the human experience. This, coupled with his extensive experience in the clinical and executive fields and his passionate advocacy for the rights of children and young people, positions him well to guide community-minded organisations and leaders into the next era of corporate psychological wellness and social change making.
His evidence-based, engaging approach ensured that every employer left with both a deeper understanding of the experiences of young people and practical tools to support them in the workplace. A key focus of the training was the recognition and use of strengths-based frameworks, encouraging employers to recognise the skills, potential, and aspirations that young people bring to the workplace.
Employers were encouraged to build safe and inclusive work environments where young people can contribute fully, feel respected, and grow in confidence. This approach enhances employment outcomes and cultivates a thriving workplace culture built on diversity, understanding, and mutual respect.
The feedback from our employers speaks volumes:
• 100% reported they were very satisfied with the training.
• 80% strongly agreed and 20% agreed that the session increased their understanding of trauma and its impacts on young people.
• 100% agreed or strongly agreed that the pace and structure of the session were appropriate for building their knowledge.
• 80% strongly agreed and 20% agreed they now feel more confident and better informed to hire youth at risk.
"my journey at larita surpassed the impact of any other academy or youth program. I absorbed transformative knowledge that has the potential to reshape my life. i am profoundly grateful for the invaluable opportunity"
These results highlight the growing commitment among employers to create safe, supportive, and opportunity-rich workplaces. By understanding the needs of young people and adopting inclusive practices, employers are playing a key role in breaking down barriers to employment.
Thanks to the feedback from the employers, there will be an even greater focus on practical strategies as the LK Group continues to ensure that young people entering the workforce have every chance to succeed.
